Time for a facelift
Nearly 25 years ago I built a mountain range on my then 4x8 layout by adding an addition 1' running the length of it making it 5'x8'. This mountain range served its purpose it added some variety to the layout and gave me place to have a couple of tunnels. At the time I was using Lichen for trees and shrubs and that worked fine. Then in 2003 when I added on to my layout and my skills increased I started making Bottlebrsh trees. They looked good, but there was a problem over time they started to lean because of the hardshell methods I was using. Fast forward to May of 2010 I bought a bunch of railroad stuff from a distant relative and included in this lot was a Woodland Scenics Hot foam cutter as well as a sheet of 2" foam. Shortly before Christmas I finally decided it was time to remove the old mountain and create a new mountain, one that would incorporate a water tank I purchased and a Mine. Well the mountian is done and here are a few pics showing the before and after

A minor diversion
For years I have wnated to purchase lego trains for me an my boys, but they have been prohibitavely expensive. Then one night my son came to me and told me he had found an ad on KSL Classifieds for legos for sale by the pound in our town and they had about 100 pounds to sell. So I contacted the seller and negotiated a selling price of $5 a pound. She said she had a few trains and that was what I was most interested in so I went by to make my purchase, well I ended up buying more than the trains, enought to build a small lego train layout with 2 trains and tons of vehicles, people and buildings. Its been about a month and a half and we come up with an additional thing nearly every day. I plan on getting back to work on my HO scale layout as soon as I can get the legos out of the way. Here are a few pictures of the lego trains and also the partially completed addition to my layout.

Atlas roadside restaurant
Two weeks ago I took my kids to a new
hobby shop in spanish fork and my
daughter told me to get this building
because I don't have it on my layout yet.
So I did and decided to paint it up
different than the version on the box.
Here is the before
and the restaurant with my choice of colors on my layout

Time for an update
The last few months have been crazy and I haven't posted any updates for a while so here we go. I gave added a number buildings and scenes to the layout. Some of which were designed by my 7 year old. I gave him a stack of wall pieces and let him decide how tall, wide and where doors and windows would go as well as the signage on the buildings

Just when you think your'e done
I had reached a point where I felt like I had everything figured out and put together, Then I had an opportunity to purchase the estate of a model railroader for a sum of $100. I bought it without really knowing what I had purchased ten boxes in all. It was like christmas as I opened teh boxed and found to my surprise that I had done quite well. Not only did I get a lot of neat stuff to add to the layout, I also got a number additional unbuilt items that I could fully customize for my layout, Some of them have not been commercially available for nearly 20 years. Here are a few pictures showing some of the recent additions. I still need to add some sidewalks and few other items to complete the scenes, but I think you will get the idea.
