At a the young age of 1 I was given a trainset by my grandmother. Ever since that time I have had trains in my blood. During my youth I had a basic 4x8 layout with two basic ovals. In 1993 I left for Los Angeles to serve a mission for my church. While I was gone my family neede the space where my layout was loacted so they framed up a wall and mounted my layout to it and then put the wall up. This my layout was between two walls. Fast forward to November of 1999, I now had home and a place to put my trains. So with the help of my brothers we pulled down the wall and loaded up my layout and a number of boxes containing my trains and buildings and hauled it to my home. Time had not been kind to my layout. The mountains were built with paper mache' and they had been devoured by insects. Luckily the framework for he mountains was still there because I had used chicken wire to construct the mountains. The first order of business was to build a table to put the layout on. It was constructed out of 2x4's and is string enough to support my weight. Once completed I began the cleanup and restoration process. This suited my needs for the time being, but in 2003 the room it was in was relinquished to the family in exchange for a new home over the garage. This room was unfinished and need electricity, insulation and walls before I could begin building my expanded layout. Work commenced and with about 4 months I had the walls painted and the room was ready for occupancy. However I had exhausted all of the available funds getting the room ready, so I had to wait until I had enough money to buy the building materials necassary to contruct the benchwork and also the track for the layout. It took a year, but I was able to procure the materials necassary to begin construction.
